The most important part of a fertility assessment is the conversation we have. I set aside an hour for all couples that are seeing me for their initial consultation. This gives us time to fully explore your past medical history, any investigations you have had and to identify any likely causes of the difficulty conceiving that you are experiencing. By allowing a full hour for the consultation, you will have a chance to ask all the questions that you have.
Based on the information you have provided me with, a number of investigations are then ordered. These include a full antenatal workup, checking your ovarian reserve through an AMH blood test (the number of eggs remaining in your ovaries), a pelvic ultrasound (to check for any pelvic pathology and as a secondary check of the ovarian reserve), a check of both partner’s chromosomes to make sure there are no abnormalities, hormonal tests and a semen analysis for the male partner.
Once these tests have been conducted we meet up again to discuss the results and devise the ideal individualised management plan to optimise your chances of conception.
